Business Openings During the Pandemic
COVID-19 turned our world upside down. Almost everyone had to change their lifestyle and plans for the future. Businesses were greatly impacted and although we saw some doors close, we saw some open. Despite the many struggles we endured during the pandemic, we welcomed many new businesses to the Ashland community. In normal times, we would celebrate these businesses in person with ribbon cuttings, but during the pandemic, safety came first, and we were unable to gather to show our support of a new business. As we emerge into our new normal, please help support those that opened during a very difficult time. Below is a list of businesses that opened storefronts from 2020 thru today. Although we could not have a ribbon cutting in person for all of these businesses, we are happy to welcome them to Ashland and hope you can get out and support them!

The Corner Spot Celebrates the 5TH Year!
In 2016 an idea came to be because of a state grant that encouraged placemaking. The Commonwealth Places Grant from MassDevelopment encouraged communities to think differently about how community spaces were used. A team of residents built the idea, fundraised the money, received the matching grant, and built what is now called The Corner Spot Ashland.
This space serves as a community gathering place and incubator for pop up businesses. It is a place in downtown Ashland where residents can come together to enjoy an event, read a book, meet a friend, and shop a new business. This space is home to over 40 events per year. Large annual events include of an opening day celebration, CultureFest, FallFest, Shop on the Spot, and Dragonfly Festival. Residents and visitors can enjoy Open Mic Nights, and this year, they can shop more often with pop up’s every other Friday night.
To commemorate five years of The Corner Spot, we have planned a party! Come enjoy opening day on June 4th from 12pm-3pm. There will be food from The Art of Umami, Street Food RX, Joey’s Cannoli, Refreshin’ Concesssions Ice Cream Truck, Sweeties Candy Bus, Fresh Lemonade, and Celebration Cupcakes from Take the Cake (while they last!). Hit the Bus will be playing music, there will be games, and Imagine that Face Painting will be ready for the kids. Come celebrate with us and enjoy this spot as it was meant to be enjoyed!
