We Could Use Your Help!
The Ashland Friends of the COA and the Friends of Callahan continue to research ways to support their Travel Committee’s 2025 goal of creating a program that would include and support travelers whose limitations make travel impossible without a travel companion. Travel does not require perfect eyesight. People dealing with low vision just need new ways and support as they apply what they already know while navigating new territories they are not familiar with. When provided a guide, most travelers are given the guidance to figure it out.
A committee who is passionate about inclusion, believes this project has the potential to make a real impact in our community.
The problem we are facing is funding and recruiting travel support for those who need a little attention on our day trips. For the FOACOA and the Friends of Callahan this has begun to be a pressing issue that demands some attention and action. To be ready to initiate this program in 2025 we are seeking to develop an innovative and effective program that would compensate those who are willing to become a travel companion for a day trip and financial support needed to provide our travel companions a stipend for their efforts.
If we are successful and able to implement this initiative, we will be given the opportunity to put a smile on someone’s face who otherwise would be unable to participate in any of our day trips offered to the Senior Citizens in our area booking a trip offered at both the Ashland and Callahan Senior Centers.
If you are interested in this program and would be willing to become a travel companion we would love to hear from you. Your support would make a meaningful difference in the lives of our community members. Text or call Donna Shaw, Travel Coordinator, at 508-740-8054 with your questions, support or offers to help
