The Friends of the Ashland Library are hosting an online Children’s Illustrators Auction on eBay, Wednesday, Dec. 1, 8 p.m. to Wednesday, Dec. 8, 8 p.m. Sixty-five pieces of art from nearly 50 artists from around the country and the world will be for sale. Proceeds will help the Friends in their support of library services and programs.

The theme of the auction is “Freedom: Be who you are, Love who you love, Read what you want.” The art being offered—sketches, prints, and watercolors—reflects this message through the eyes of the illustrators. To access the art, visit friendsoftheapl.org/cia-2021. To read up on bidding, shipping, and more, visit friendsoftheapl.org/cia-2021/policies-faqs.

“This art is for anyone who loves children’s picture books and graphic novels; for caregivers who read to their children; grandchildren; teachers; librarians; collectors—really anyone!” Meena Jain, Director, Ashland Library, said. “We offer these pieces as the holidays approach as they would make amazing gifts, but they are completely timeless.”

“The auction includes lots of original work created just for this auction, such as by Jeffrey Smith and Debbie Ridpath Ohi for example; prints; and signed books,” Jain addded. “It was important to me to have this range so that people can pick their price point and the pieces are accessible to as many people as possible. Although this is a fundraiser, it is also an opportunity to highlight the diversity and magic in children’s illustrations.”

Art Receptiwon, Dec. 5

The public is invited to attend an Art Gallery Reception on Sunday, Dec. 5, 1 to 3 p.m. “We hope residents will join us for this fantastic exhibit. Plus, they might even meet some of the local illustrators!” Jain said. The library is located at 66 Front St. For more information, call the library, 508-881-0134, or visit www.friendsoftheapl.org.
